Triona McCarthy: Perfume before bed may be a new trend on TikTok but I’m a longterm fan - and so was Marilyn Monroe!

If you have a pre-teen in your house, you will probably know all about the Sol de Janeiro range as it’s all the rage with young girls thanks to their delectably sweet scents.

The thing is that wearing perfume to bed is not a new thing. The shapes of the bottles are often a thing of beauty. Elsa Schiaparelli’s scent called Sleeping was released in the 1940s and was shaped like a candle snuffer. Another bottle that will look great on your bedside table is Giorgio Armani’s Noir Kogane, €355, brownthomas.com, with its stylish black and gold bottle. The white floral musky fragrance is crafted by master perfumer Benoist Lapouza, and has an earthy and leathery vetiver scent with warm and spicy saffron notes. It has a sister fragrance Blanc Kogane, which is contrasting yet complementary, and is filled with musk and white jasmine notes.
