Sophie White: I’ve been sidelined by a pal but I’ve realised that it's quality over quantity when it comes to friendships

Scoop star Gillian Anderson recently spoke about having very few close friends, and I’m with her on that

I’m not completely sure why, but for my whole life my friendships have preoccupied me far more than any of my romantic relationships. Sure, I could fret over the people I fancied (few of whom ever reciprocated! I am an acquired taste), but most of my anxious overthinking tendencies were laser focused on my platonic friendships.

I was forever feeling ignored, left out and generally like a loser. I wish I could say this has changed with age and wisdom but, lol, absolutely not. To this day, my all-time top subjects to ruminate on are: 1) I am a bad mother. 2) That I’ll fall for an elaborate (or not elaborate — even more embarrassing) scam and lose all my money. 3) That my friends don’t like me.
