Billy Vunipola, the Saracens and England rugby player, has been arrested after an alleged violent incident at a bar in Majorca.

According to reports, the 31-year-old had to be tasered twice by police who attended a bar called Epic, in the town of Palma, at 4.30am on Sunday.

The first shot with the taser apparently had little affect on the No 8, who was alleged to have removed his shirt and been threatening staff and drinkers with bottles and chairs.

Vunipola, who weighs 20 stone, is said to have challenged officers before they managed to handcuff him. He was escorted to a nearby hospital where, according to reports, he had to be sedated and strapped to his bed.

He was kept under guard until he appeared in court on Sunday wearing a blue T shirt and beige shorts. He has been released on bail pending an investigation.

Police have not yet commented on the arrest.

Vunipola, who was born in Australia to Tongan parents, moved to Wales when he was a child and won a scholarship to Harrow School.

From there was picked up by Wasps before moving to Saracens in 2013. He has won 75 England caps, although the most recent of these was in 2023.

Having not been selected by England for the 2024 Six Nations, Vunipola is widely expected to leave Saracens for Montpellier next season.

That move would effectively end any hopes of an international recall, because England players based overseas are ineligible for the national team.
