​A neighbour just splashed out €2,500 on three events at this summer’s Olympics in Paris, convinced Ireland will win gold in the rowing.

Far from being shy about such a splurge, he reasoned: “If teenage girls can con their daddies into paying €1,000 for a Taylor Swift concert, why can’t I cheer our athletes on the biggest world stage?” Hard to argue with such logic.
