Tributes have been paid to the “madly talented” makeup artist Aisling Eyre, who died this week following treatment for cancer.

An award-winning makeup artist from Dublin, Ms Eyre had candidly shared her cancer journey and spoke openly about its toll, the challenges of treatment and the importance of finding joy and positivity in life.

She died on Tuesday, surrounded by her family at Wicklow Hospice, Magheramore.

Designer Helen Cody was among those who paid tribute to Ms Eyre, recounting how they worked on their first editorial together for Tatler magazine at the age of 21.

"I’m sitting in my kitchen numbed by the news of Aisling Eyre’s passing… I can’t move… it’s too sad,” she said.

"We were kindred spirits starting out in the world of styling and makeup respectively. We worked on our first editorial together for Tatler mag at the tender age of 21.

"We would endlessly chat about the visual stories we could create with brilliant photographer friends. We shared a house together in Terenure which we christened Cleavage cottage, it wasn’t easy working freelance in a tiny industry.

"But we always made it work. She was such a gentle sensitive soul, madly talented and always laughing. I’m truly sad and sorry for her passing,” she added.

"I have just listened to The Lonely podcast which Aisling recorded in March, if you would like to listen. Dearest Aisling I hope you are making faces beautiful somewhere lovely.”

Makeup artist Julia Clements also paid tribute to Ms Eyre, who she described as “the most beautiful and creative of makeup artists”.

"So creative in everything she did, should that be creating characters for her foot whilst in plaster, stunning avant-garde make up of beautiful looks for models and mortals alike,” she said.

"She was as beautiful on the inside as the looks she created. She continued training right up until the end most recently learning prosthetic dentures. A maverick, an industry professional, a wonderful being, a dear friend and colleague.

"She snuck out of palliative care recently to have the second stage added to her tattoo that she had intended to be a full sleeve, such was her zest for life.

"She gained her wings far too early but heavens will be a more beautiful now as she shone so bright wherever she was. Goodbye dear friend.”
