Streaming review: An orgy of broken dreams in Fern Brady’s witty debut
Early on in her stand-up special Fern Brady notes that, although she is often described as a Scottish comedian she is, in fact, “98.3pc Irish”. It’s a fact, she says, that’s a “testament to the powerful sectarianism in Scotland”.
The Irish Catholic community in West Lothian where she grew up tended to keep to itself (her forebears came from Donegal), and even years later, with more than a decade living in London under her belt, she still feels powerfully connected to those “who had paedophiles singing at them in mass on a Sunday”. So perhaps we can claim her as one of our own too.
